What 5x5 should you buy in 2025?

Best 5x5 Speedcubes in 2025 – What to Buy (Budget to Pro)

The 5x5 market hasn’t changed much over the past year, but it’s still worth knowing the best options and which 5x5 suits you.

High-End Options

GAN 562 — £48 (Frosted) / £54 (UV)

The 5x5 Tymon Kolasiński used for his world-record average at Worlds (I was there in Seattle!). The 562 is slightly larger than some rivals and—true to GAN—feels smooth and very stable. It’s so rigid that, if you removed two layers, it would still feel like a solid 3x3. Choose the UV for extra grip or Frosted to save a bit.

X-Man Hong — £30

An underrated alternative with the classic smooth-stable QiYi feel. It was the first core-magnetic 5x5 from a major manufacturer and is smaller than the GAN. If you like QiYi’s modern feel (similar vibe to the new Warrior 7x7), this is a sleeper pick.

MoYu AoChuang V6 — Single/Dual/Triple Track

My personal choice is the Dual Track: faster feel that suits my style. There’s also a PiCube Special Edition Dual Track with slightly weaker magnets, and a Triple Track if you want even more magnetic stability (I find it unnecessary, but you might like it).

Vin 5x5 — £18 (Frosted) / £22 (UV)

A niche option with a distinctive feel. Stanley Chapel used it for recent 5x5 blindfold world records. Most cubers won’t prefer it for general speedsolving, but it seems to excel for BLD specialists—and it’s inexpensive.

Best Value & Budget Picks

MoYu AoChuang V6 Single Track (UV) — £23

Same design language as the Dual Track but without corner-core magnets. Still performs very well and is probably the best at its price. There’s also a non-UV Single Track for just £16, which is very competitive in the sub-£20 bracket.

YJ MGC 5x5 — £18

The classic crowd-favourite for the last ~6 years. Still fully viable—especially if you like a slightly larger 5x5 feel.

Smaller-Size Budget Cubes: YJ ZhiLong 5x5 & YJ Pocket 5x5 — £11/£14

These are essentially the same puzzle—Pocket is the newer, cheaper release in a smaller box with fewer accessories. Both are significantly smaller at 58 mm. Performance is similar to MGC but the size won’t suit most solvers; good for younger cubers/small hands or if you like compact cubes.

Ultra-Budget: MoYu MeiLong 5x5 & QiYi QiZheng S2 5x5 — £8

Neither will match the mid/high-tier options, but both outperform older-generation cubes by a lot. The QiZheng S2 is a bit larger/more stable; the MeiLong is smaller/faster. I’d lean MeiLong at £8—but if you can, spend a little more for a notable upgrade.

Quick Recommendations

FAQ

What size should I get for 5x5?
Most modern flagships sit around 61–63 mm and feel quick/compact. If you prefer larger, the MGC is roomier; if you want truly small, look at 58 mm ZhiLong/Pocket.

Do extra magnet tracks help?
Yes. Single Track (corner–edge) is standard; Dual/Triple add corner–core/extra arrays for more stability and accuracy at speed. Many solvers find Dual Track the sweet spot.

Is the GAN 562 worth the price?
If you like GAN’s feel and premium stability (and want the WR pedigree), yes. For value, AoChuang V6 and MGC are hard to beat.
