Max Park breaks 6x6 and 7x7 world record average

Max Park breaks 6x6 and 7x7 world record average

Last Sunday we awoke to news that Max Park had once more broken the 6x6 world record average, putting it even further down at 1:05.04. Max Park has dominated big cubes for many years but other people are beginning to catch up, in the past year he has lost his world records in 4x4 and 5x5 to Tymon Kolasinski and other people seem to be coming for his 6x6 world records too, although his single of 57.69 keeps him 5 seconds ahead of anyone else for single.

On the same day, Max also broke his own 7x7 world record average by nearly 3 seconds with a time of 1:36.86, getting that time on 6x6 would place you 209th in the world. In the same average, he also broke the world record single with a time of 1:33.48.

For the past few years, Max Park has remained very dominant, especially in 6x6 and 7x7, however, there are clearly some names creeping up the rankings of both events who could snatch away his world records in turn. Seung Hyuk Nahm from Korea has been close for many years and I suspect if he hadn't been required to take a year out to serve in the Korean military, then he would have broken his world records by now. Other potential contenders include Emmanuel Kao from Singapore, Dongsoo Park from Korea, Do Quang Hung from Vietnam and Henry Lichner from the USA. However, Max Park seems to always be inspired by competition and has a history of proving people wrong when they think his career is over, so it will be interesting to see if he will be able to further improve these times and hold off any competition for the next few years.

The reality is that Max Park is well known due to his previous dominance of the 3x3 event too, all of these potential contenders for the 6x6 and 7x7 world records are nowhere near challenging him in 3x3, and certainly nowhere near YiHeng Wang and XuanYi Geng's times (except possibly Tymon Kolasinski who previously held 3x3 world record average)
