It seems YJ keep trying to make good 3x3s but keep releasing weird experimental models that never really do very well. Their previous 3x3 release felt very strange, it had a 'speed micro actuator' which supposedly improved the speed of the puzzle but really just made the puzzle feel even weirder. MoYu could just use Maglev like everyone else seems to these days, even if that is just a bit of a gimmick and doesn't really make any difference to the performance of the cube.
Their latest release seems to be even stranger though, the puzzle appears to have hollowed out pieces to make it incredibly light, I assume the performance will be significantly better than the YuXin Hollow, which again, no one seems interested in. The puzzle does seem to have both corner-edge and corner-core magnets and comes with various spring sets to choose from, some combinations of which aren't actually possible.
The idea of hollowing out pieces on a cube is not completely new, Chris Tran tried it a few years ago and Patrick Ponce used the cube he came out with for a while but it has never been tried by a major cube brand on a magnetic cube. I will hopefully get these in stock next week and then I can see if it is actually any good, it might be strange, but maybe some strange cubes are actually good.
