YuXin Petaminx coming soon

YuXin Petaminx coming soon

YuXin are releasing a petaminx now which I expect to have in stock in around 2 weeks time (from publishing this blog post). I am very excited to try it out and probably spend longer on solving it than I have ever done on any puzzle that I know I can solve given enough time.

A petaminx is a 9x9 megaminx, the english naming system for minx puzzles adds prefixes based on the metric system: as in the metric system, the next prefix up indicates a value divided by 1000, for minx puzzles the next prefix up indicates 2 more layers.

1000 meters = 1 kilometer

1000 kilometers = 1 megameter...

1,000,000,000,000,000 meters = 1 petameter.

Previous petaminxes have not performed very well so I have never stocked them, both ShengShou and MF8 released petaminxes many years ago but I don't expect the performance to be adequate enough.

YuXin released a Teraminx a few months ago which has gone down very well, it is not quite as fast as I had previously hoped but never seems to pop, which makes it the largest puzzle I feel comfortable letting newer cubers play with on my competition stalls. It looks like I will soon have an even larger cube to leave there for kids to solve one bar of and then give up!
