Isaac Corker Sets New UK 2x2 National Record Single and Square-1 National Record Average at Sheffield Spring 2026

Isaac Corker had one of the most impressive weekends of his career at Sheffield Spring 2026 after setting two separate United Kingdom National Records across two different events.

The biggest result came in Square-1, where Isaac achieved a stunning 6.18 national record average in the second round of the competition. His solves were:

  • 6.86

  • 5.79

  • 6.57

  • 4.98

  • 6.17

resulting in an official average of 6.18 seconds after the fastest and slowest solves were removed. (World Cube Association)

The result improves on his previous UK national record averages and continues his rapid rise as one of Europe’s strongest Square-1 solvers. The average also places him among the fastest Square-1 competitors in the world, with sub-7 averages in the event still being extremely rare internationally.

Square-1 is widely considered one of the most technically demanding official WCA events because the puzzle changes shape throughout the solve. Unlike standard NxN cubes, competitors must constantly track both the puzzle’s shape and piece permutation simultaneously, making recognition and lookahead far more complicated.

At the elite level, success in Square-1 requires:

  • Extremely advanced recognition

  • Efficient cube shape restoration

  • Fast turning accuracy

  • Large algorithm knowledge

  • Exceptional TPS under awkward turning angles

Isaac’s average was especially impressive because it included a 4.98 single — one of the fastest official UK Square-1 solves ever achieved. (World Cube Association)

As if the Square-1 result was not enough, Isaac also broke the UK National Record single for 2x2 earlier in the competition with an astonishing 0.53-second solve in the first round. (World Cube Association)

Breaking half a second on 2x2 is considered one of the biggest milestones in modern speedcubing, with only a very small number of competitors worldwide capable of achieving official solves at that speed. Modern elite 2x2 solving has become incredibly optimised, often involving near-perfect solutions combined with extremely high turning speed and instant recognition.

What makes Isaac’s weekend particularly remarkable is the fact that the records came in two completely different styles of events.

2x2 is an ultra-fast recognition and TPS-based event where fractions of a second matter enormously, while Square-1 is a far more technical shape-mod puzzle requiring advanced planning and spatial tracking. Excelling at both demonstrates just how versatile Isaac has become as a competitor.

The results also continue the rapid rise of UK speedcubing overall. Over the past few years, British cubers have increasingly achieved nationally and internationally competitive results across a wide range of events, with new records falling regularly.

Isaac has been one of the standout names behind that progression, especially in Square-1, where he has repeatedly lowered the UK national record barrier since 2024. (World Cube Association)

Given his current rate of improvement, it would not be surprising to see both records lowered even further in the near future.
