James Alonso gets the UK's first sub-6 3x3 average

British speedcuber James Alonso achieved the first sub-6 average by any UK competitor last Sunday at Battersea Autumn 2024. He has held the national record since last year but has been slowly chipping away at it, including with a 6.00 official average a few weeks ago, having a 6.00 average was probably rather annoying and must have really motivated him to practice some more to get an average below 6 seconds.

James Alonso joins 64 other people with an official average below 6 seconds, I wonder how long it will be before a sub-6 average will no longer place you in the top 100 in the world! Needless to say, he easily won the competition as his average was 2.48 seconds faster than anyone else there.

Prior to 2024, his main competition was Chris Mills but he has moved to New Zealand and has changed his nationality on the World Cube Association website, however, there are a few other cubers such as Caleb Wolf Dunn and Nicholas Archer who are slowly getting faster and may come to challenge him next year.
