In every sport there are always those who don't want to participate because they are put off by those who are so far ahead of them. What is the point? We will never get that good. In cubing we have recently seen YiHeng Wang rise up to completely dominate 3x3x3, no one is even close to him right now, and people have sought to make out as if cubing is finished because of this, this is complete nonsense, just because YiHeng Wang learns ZBLL and can often one look F2L does not mean others cannot learn and it does not mean he will never be beaten. But even if no one does beat him for many years, there are many other events to practice, and afterall, most people will never break a world record anyway, only one person can ever hold it at a time!
