Preston finally releases video about his 49x49!
We heard about this cube a few months ago but it was only yesterday that the video was finally released showcasing his massive achievement. The previous record was a 33x33 before Preston completed his 49x49, while Matt Bahner did briefly hold the ratified record with his 34x34 and there was a possibly legitimate 35x35 from China. 49x49 refers to 49 layers which is very big, a regular cube has just 3 layers which is why we call it a 3x3. The process took him many years and the puzzle itself has 13826 moving parts, the video goes into detail about how he made it and the various design choices made. I wonder how long it will be until this record gets beaten, it truly is a massive jump over the previous record but the whole process does get easier each time with modern 3D printing technology.
