Weekly speedcubing news 9/3/2023

This week we had a speedcubing competition in Edinburgh, this competition attracted many new competitors as it had lots of the simple events and was in a location that does not have that many competitions at the moment (although that is changing!)

At the competition, Ryan Eckersley broke the 4x4x4 blindfolded national record with a single of 1:47.86, it is still over double Stanley Chapel's time but is very impressive nonetheless!

Around the world we also saw Cale Schoon equal his own 3x3x3 Fewest moves world record mean, he got another mean of 21 with solutions of 20,21 and 22 moves, many people seem to be pushing closer and closer to the 20 move barrier, will we ever see someone consistently able to find an optimal solution in an hour?

Yifan Wang got the Asian record 3x3x3 blindfolded single with a time of 17.46

In cube release news, there are a few cubes being released and on their way including the Gan 13 Maglev FX, this will be a gan 13 without adjustable corner magnets and will be a bit cheaper than the normal gan 13. ShengShou have also released a mirror Square-1 and Square-0, I will have to wait and see how these actually work!
