Best 2x2 Speedcubes in 2025: What Top Solvers Are Using & What You Should Buy

There have been a few new 2x2 releases in 2025, but none have massively shifted the 2x2 landscape yet. Looking at the very top of the field paints a simple picture: there are basically two strong choices for elite solvers right now.

What the Top Solvers Are Using

• MoYu WeiPo V5 (50 mm) — used by World Record holder YiHeng Wang. Fast, smooth, slightly smaller form factor. MoYu WeiPo V5 Ball Core UV
• GAN 251M series — the other nine solvers in the top-10 have been using variants of the 251, most likely the Pro.

GAN 251M Lineup Explained (Air → Pro → Leap → Leap UV)

• GAN 251M Air — regular corner–edge magnets only; light & simple. View
• GAN 251M Pro — adds corner–core magnets and adjustable magnet strength; the most used/versatile. View
• GAN 251M Leap — like Pro but with extra-strong core magnets for more aggressive auto-alignment. View
• GAN 251M Leap UV — Leap with a durable UV finish. (GAN never released UV Air/Pro, so mixing requires modding.) View

Mid-Range 2x2 Picks (£10–£20)

• DaYan TengYun V1 — smooth, hollow, and very quiet; great value at this tier. View
• MoYu WeiPo WRS — increasingly scarce but still a viable MoYu option if you like their feel. View
• Vin 2x2 — two versions:
  • Standard (corner–edge magnets): View
  • Corner-core magnetic + UV: View
  Performance is fine, but it hasn’t matched the buzz of the brand’s 4×4.
• YJ MGC Elite (51 mm) — centre–edge magnet layout; solid but on the heavier/slower side. View
• YJ MGC2 Beta — my pick over Elite in this bracket:
  • Corner-core magnetic + UV (ball-core): View
  • Standard version: View
  Feels like a blend of WeiPo V5 & MGC Elite in a good way, and the UV ball-core version is excellent value.

Best Budget 2x2 Options (Under £10)

Plenty of genuinely good choices here—great for first upgrades and backups.

£4–£7: Entry-Level

• QiYi QiDi S2 — non-magnetic but smooth and perfectly usable at £4. View
• MoYu MeiLong 2x2 — the absolute cheapest I’d recommend; light and easy to turn. View
• QiYi Warrior 2x2 M — the cheapest magnetic 2x2 and a big performance jump for only a little more. View

£9–£10: Standout Budget Performers

• YJ MGC 2x2 (V1) — still a decent performer, though a few users have reported corner-stalk breaks (avoid twisting fixed corners!). View
• MoYu RS2M Evolution — design inspired by the WeiPo WRS; excellent for the price. View
• Top budget pick: QiYi M Pro 2x2 Ball-Core — corner-core magnetic stability for only ~£9; also available in an even cheaper non-ball-core version:
  • Ball-core: View
  • Standard: View
  Both are excellent if you’re on a tight budget.

Final Thoughts

If you’re chasing absolute top-end performance, the GAN 251M Pro and MoYu WeiPo V5 remain the safest bets in 2025. For mid-range shoppers, the YJ MGC2 Beta (Ball-Core + UV) is superb value. And for under a tenner, the QiYi M Pro 2x2 (Ball-Core) and MoYu RS2M Evolution are hard to beat.
