British success at the European Championships

I recently competed at the European speedcubing championships a long with around 80 other British speedcubers, I achieved good results such as an 8.50 second 3x3 average and a 1:43 6x6 average, however, this was far from good enough to make any of the finals this time!

The first clear success for the UK was in the nations cup, the nations cup is where teams from various countries compete head to head, this time the format was with 4 competitors selected from each country who would all have to solve a cube one at a time as fast as possible. Unfortunately with these sorts of competitions there is a lot of politics involved and Russia were pretty much universally hated among the rest of the European cubers present (understandably). The UK was ranked 7th in the ceeding but somehow managed to win the competition, beating Poland in the semi final (Tymon Kolasinski didn't want to do it for some reason) and eventually beating Sweden (ranked 13th!) in the final.

The UK also saw success in other events, with Ariel Benchetrit coming third and winning bronze in skewb (among the actual Europeans at least).

Edward Burgess came 2nd in Pyraminx, somehow he managed to pull through the final and perform really well, while Daniel Partridge (former European record holder) did not even make the final.

Aidan Grainger came first in megaminx after a lot of controversy with the wrong scrambles being used and the rounf having to be redone.

Ryan Eckersley came 2nd in 4x4 blindfolded, becoming the only scot to podium at the championships. Ryan was beaten by honarary brit, Ezra Hirschi, from Switzerland who is currently studying in the UK, Ezra also broke the European record to win multiple 3x3s blindfolded with a result of 55/56 cubes solved blindfolded in under an hour!
