How to create cubing competition scorecards

Using the generator is simple. Enter the competition details, choose the event and round format, and then enter the competitor's ID and name.

You can customise:

• Time limit

The live preview updates automatically so you can see exactly what the scorecard will look like before adding it to the print list.

Once a scorecard is ready, click Add to print list. The competitor fields are then cleared while the competition and round settings remain in place, making it much quicker to create several scorecards for competitors in the same group.

Scorecards for different competition formats

Different speedcubing events and rounds use different numbers of attempts, so the generator supports several common formats:

Average of 5 – five attempts, as used for many standard speedcubing events.

Best of 2 / Average of 5 – competitors must achieve the cutoff within their first two attempts before receiving all five attempts. The generated scorecard includes a dotted cutoff line between attempts two and three.

Mean of 3 – three attempts with the remaining attempt boxes marked as unused.

Best of 3 – three attempts.

Best of 2 – two attempts.

Best of 1 – one attempt.

An extra attempt box is also included on every scorecard in case an additional attempt needs to be granted.

Which speedcubing events are supported?

The generator includes the standard speedcubing events, including cubes from 2×2 to 7×7, blindfolded solving, Fewest Moves, One-Handed, Megaminx, Pyraminx, Skewb and Square-1.

It also includes Face-Turning Octahedron (FTO), allowing scorecards to be prepared for FTO competitions and rounds.

Print four scorecards on one A4 page

Each scorecard measures 105 × 148.5 mm (A6 portrait). Four scorecards therefore fit exactly onto a standard 210 × 297 mm A4 portrait sheet, arranged in two columns and two rows.

The generator automatically handles this layout for you. Once you have added your scorecards to the print list, the A4 preview shows exactly how they will be positioned on each page. If you add more than four scorecards, additional A4 pages are created automatically.

After printing, simply make one vertical and one horizontal cut through the centre of the A4 sheet to separate the four portrait scorecards.

The A4 sheet preview lets you check the cards before printing, and automatically creates additional pages when more than four scorecards have been added.

Generate a PDF or print directly

There are two ways to output your finished scorecards.

Generate PDF creates an A4 PDF containing the scorecards at their intended physical dimensions. This is particularly useful if you want to save the scorecards, send them to somebody else or print them later.

Alternatively, Print directly creates a clean A4 print layout in a new tab ready for your browser's print dialogue.

For the most predictable results, we recommend generating the PDF before printing.

What are speedcubing scorecards used for?

At a cubing competition, scorecards provide the link between the competitor, judge and results team.

For each attempt, there is space to record the scramble, result and signatures or initials from the judge and competitor. The card also identifies the event, round, group and competitor, while displaying important information such as the cutoff and time limit.

Once a competitor has completed their attempts, the scorecard can be returned to the results team so the times can be entered into the competition's results system.

This makes scorecards useful not only at official competitions, but also for unofficial competitions, club events, school competitions, practice competitions and other speedcubing events where organisers want to recreate a competition-style solving experience.

Can I use these for an official WCA competition?

This generator is intended to produce practical WCA-style cubing scorecards, but organisers of official World Cube Association competitions should always ensure that their competition materials and procedures meet the current WCA Regulations and any requirements of their WCA Delegates.

For unofficial competitions and practice events, you can simply configure the scorecards to suit your own format.
