Sorry I didn't post about this last week but we had some exciting news when YiHeng Wang finally achieved a sub-4 second official 3x3 average, we knew it would happen at some point but the question was when?
Then it happened, in the second round of 3x3 at Lishui Open 2025, YiHeng Wang achieved an average of 3.91 seconds, his solves were 4.17 3.74 (3.70) 3.81 (4.93), this time he went into the last solve with the world record and the sub-4 average completely guaranteed, so no matter how badly he messed up the last solve, it was already secure.
I think this is the first time that the world record single and average have both been in the same second (3.xx) and it means we still await the first ever sub-3 second single, surely it must be coming soon?
in a twist of circumstances, YiHeng Wang actually didn't even win the competition because his even younger rival, XuanYi Geng, was actually faster in the final of 3x3 with a 4.78 average which beat YiHeng Wang's 5.01, although he was probably under a bit more pressure after just breaking the world record again!
