ZiYu Wu breaks megaminx world record average

ZiYu Wu breaks megaminx world record average

Last weekend, the cubing community awoke once more to the news of another world record being broken overnight in China. ZiYu Wu surprised the community with a 25.15 megaminx world record average, beating Timofei Taresenko's previous world record average of 25.36.

ZiYu Wu has over competed 7 times so far this year which means he hasn't had as many opportunities as some other top cubers, although it seems that quite a few top megaminx solvers don't compete as much as would otherwise be expected considering their level.

ZiYu Wu also holds chinese national record for 5x5, 6x6 and 7x7 and realisticially could challenge the world records in those events in the next year.

ZiYu Wu also uses a rather strange megaminx last layer method which involves solving edge orientation + permutation and then setting the corners to be solved in 3 corner commutators, other top megaminx solvers have criticized this method as being less efficient than regular OLL and PLL and harder to recognize the cases, however, it seems that ZiYu Wu is quite set on this method and has proved it can be effective.

Despite ZiYu Wu being sponsored by QiYi, it appears he was using a DaYan Megaminx Pro M for this world record average, I guess there is just no viable QiYi megaminx available at the moment, hopefully that will change soon.

The video of the world record isn't available on YouTube yet but can be viewed on Bilibili (the Chinese equivalent)
