Liam Pintat Breaks Both 3x3 Blindfolded UK National Records

Liam Pintat had an outstanding 3x3 Blindfolded performance at Weston-super-Mare Autumn 2026, breaking the UK National Record for both single and mean.

In the final, Liam recorded five attempts of:

  • DNF

  • 19.74

  • 19.22

  • 18.83

  • 14.03

His final 14.03 was a new 3x3 Blindfolded UK National Record single, while his three counting successes of 19.74, 19.22 and 18.83 produced a 19.26 mean, which was also a new National Record.

14.03 National Record Single

The headline result was Liam's 14.03 final solve.

The previous British record was 15.61, set by Ben Stokes at Manchester Cubing League - Second 2026. Liam therefore took a huge 1.58 seconds off the record in a single jump.

It also continued Liam's rapid improvement in the event. At the UK Championship 2026 only a few weeks earlier, Liam won 3x3 Blindfolded with a best result of 16.58.

At Weston-super-Mare, he had already produced a 17.76 in the first round before finding another level in the final.

A National Record Mean as Well

The 14.03 wasn't Liam's only National Record of the round.

After beginning with a DNF, Liam completed three consecutive successful solves in 19.74, 19.22 and 18.83. This secured the three successes required for a mean before he even started his final attempt.

Those three solves gave him a 19.26 mean, breaking the UK National Record.

The final 14.03 did not count towards the mean, as 3x3 Blindfolded means are calculated from the first three successful solves rather than simply taking the fastest three results from the round.

That makes the round particularly impressive: Liam had already secured the National Record mean before finishing it by taking the National Record single as well.

Liam Pintat Wins 3x3 Blindfolded

Unsurprisingly, the performance also comfortably gave Liam first place in the event.

Ben Stokes finished second with a best solve of 19.16, while Adam Devere finished third with 19.76.

Liam was the only competitor in the final to complete three successful solves and therefore the only competitor to record a mean.

From First Competition to National Records in Just Two Years

Perhaps one of the most remarkable aspects of Liam's achievement is just how quickly he has reached this level.

Liam only began competing in official WCA competitions around two years ago, making his rise to the top of UK blindfolded solving remarkably fast. In that relatively short period, he has progressed from a new competitor to winning 3x3 Blindfolded at the UK Championship and now breaking both British National Records in the event.

Blindfolded solving can take years to master. As well as being able to execute quickly, competitors need to memorise an entire scrambled cube accurately and then solve it without being able to see it. At the highest level, even a small memorisation or execution mistake results in a DNF.

For Liam to have progressed to 14-second territory within his first couple of years of competition therefore makes his recent results particularly notable.

His progress has accelerated further during 2026. After winning the UK Championship with a 16.58, he has now taken the National Record all the way down to 14.03 only a few weeks later.

A Huge Step Forward for UK Blindfolded Solving

Breaking a National Record by more than a second is a significant achievement in an event as established as 3x3 Blindfolded.

Liam's 14.03 has moved the British single record from the mid-15s directly into the low-14s, while his 19.26 mean demonstrates that he is capable of producing fast successful solves consistently rather than relying on one exceptional attempt.

Considering Liam was only beginning his competitive cubing career two years ago, his rise to challenging — and now breaking — National Records has been remarkably quick.

And with the British record now sitting at 14.03, another major barrier is extremely close.

The UK's first official sub-14 3x3 Blindfolded solve could be just one successful attempt away.
