World Championship registration dates announced

World Championship registration dates announced

The WCA World Championships 2025 will take place in Seattle, Washington, USA from July 3-6th 2025, this will probably be the largest competition ever and will potentially have 2000 competitors competing in 17 different official speedcubing events.

For the first time at a major championship, the World Cube Association have introduced a tiered registration system, this means that only the fastest competitors are able to register initially and then slower competitors will be able to register afterwards if there is still space.

There are going to be 4 tiers, the first tier will open on November 8th 2024, this will be for top cubers with results such as a sub-8 second 3x3 average or a sub-3 pyraminx average. I don't qualify for any event in phase 1 unfortunately so I will have to wait until phase 2, in theory, the 2000 places could fill up in phase 1 and I wouldn't be able to compete, however, this is incredibly unlikely as I don't think there enough people in the world with the qualifying times for that.

Phase 2 will open on November 22nd at 14:00 GMT, the qualifying times for this phase are more lenient with an average of under 10 seconds being required for 3x3 or under 1 minute for megaminx, it is possible that the competition could fill quite quickly at this point so it would be wise to register as soon as it opens.

Phase 3 will open on December 13th 2024 if the competition hasn't filled by then, phase 4 is also due to open on 3rd January 2025 but it is very unlikely any new competitors will be able to register in phase 4. Competitors who have qualified in one event in a previous phase and registered for it will then be able to add new events when the new phases are opened.

Here below we can see my results and where I can register, you can find this for you here, just log into your WCA account through it.

I will qualify for 3x3, 5x5, 6x6 and 7x7 in phase 2 so I will be able to register for the competition and for those events on November 22nd, once phase 3 opens I will be able to add 2x2, 4x4, 3x3 One handed, Clock, Megaminx, Pyraminx and Skewb to my events regardless of whether any new competitors will be able to register in that phase, I will then also be able to add 3x3 Blindfolded in phase 4.

3x3 Fewest Moves and Multi-blind have a limited number of competitors so it is not known for certain what the final qualifying time will be, however, it is very likely that the time required to make the top 50 will be very competitive and it is almost guaranteed to fill in the earlier phases.
