Vin 3x3 Nova Racer – Ball Core UV

The Vin Nova Racer sits in the middle of the Nova range and arguably offers the best balance between price and features. For £22.95, it adds a 64-magnet Ball Core system and UV coating while retaining traditional spring tensioning.

This makes the Racer a significant upgrade from the £15.95 Nova Lite without requiring the £32.95 price of the full MagLev Flagship. Corner-to-core magnetic attraction helps the cube align during fast turning, while the UV-coated exterior provides a glossy, grippy surface.

Key Features

  • 64-magnet system – expanded magnetic architecture compared with the Nova Lite
  • Ball Core – corner-to-core magnetic attraction improves alignment and stability
  • Traditional spring tensioning – retains springs rather than moving to MagLev
  • 128 adjustment combinations – 8 tension settings × 8 compression settings
  • 35° auto-alignment – magnetic positioning helps complete partially turned layers
  • 55.5mm size – compact dimensions for quick and comfortable turning
  • Approximately 72g
  • UV-coated exterior – glossy finish for additional grip and scratch resistance
  • WCA legal – suitable for official competitions

Which Vin Nova Should You Buy?

Version Price Magnets Ball Core Tension Finish Best For
Nova Lite £15.95 48 No Springs Frosted Best value
Nova Racer £22.95 64 Yes Springs UV Best balance of features and price
Nova Flagship £32.95 88 Yes MagLev UV Maximum Nova technology

Nova Racer vs Lite

The £15.95 Nova Lite uses a conventional 48-magnet corner-edge system and frosted exterior. Spending another £7 on the Racer adds two meaningful upgrades: Ball Core magnetic positioning and UV coating.

For most competitive cubers choosing between the two, this makes the Racer particularly compelling. The Ball Core adds another layer of magnetic alignment while the UV coating improves grip, without pushing the price into flagship territory.

Nova Racer vs Flagship

The £32.95 Nova Flagship retains the Ball Core and UV coating but replaces the Racer's traditional springs with MagLev. Its more extensive magnetic architecture increases the total from 64 to 88 magnets.

If you specifically want MagLev and the most advanced Nova magnetic system, choose the Flagship. If you prefer traditional springs or simply want most of the important premium features for £10 less, the Racer is the sweet spot of the range.

Best for: Speedcubers who want Ball Core and UV coating at a mid-range price without paying extra for MagLev.
