2027 World Cubing Championships to be held in Uppsala, Sweden

2027 World Cubing Championships to be held in Uppsala, Sweden

In the closing ceremony of the 2025 World Championships in Seattle, the cubing community waited in anticipation for the announcement of where the next World Championships would be held. Sweden had actually already announced they were placing a bid so it was commonly expected that they would get it but it was always possible that someone else had made a bid without telling the community.

The announcement came and we had confirmation that Uppsala, Sweden would be the host of the next World Championships. Uppsala is a city only a short distance north of the capital, Stockholm, and is very easily accessible from Stockholm Arlanda airport, this makes it very convenient for UK speedcubers and I suspect we will see many more UK speedcubers attending this time round.

The last time the World Championships were held in Europe was in 2017 when it was held in Paris, France, however, many of the cubers who won medals at the 2025 World Championships did not even know how to solve a cube back then.

The organizers state that they expect the venue to be able to cater for 2000 competitors, however, they have expressed a willingness to reduce that number down to 1600 if the number of spectators is too high, unfortunately this may mean very harsh requirements for entrants, likely to be somewhere around the 9-10 second mark for 3x3 competitors. They plan to utilize a phased registration system similar to that in Seattle to allow the very best competitors to register first.
