Dayan guhong pro + ( 54mm, 55mm, 56mm standard ) reveals a big issue with 3x3 cubes
I’d like to start off by saying these are good cubes! They work well and if you need a good 3x3 for cheap I highly recommend these!
These cubes for me personally show a greater issue that a lot of 3x3’s encounter. It’s too fast!
Many cube manufacturers focus too much on making a cube fast/ airy that really isn’t needed!
Most people cannot handle such speed on 3x3’s and need to slow it down!
While using lubricants can help slow a cube down, this isn’t as easy of a solution than it sounds!
I’ve battled with the guhong pro + ( 54mm, 55mm, 56mm ) trying to slow it down without it becoming annoying overlubed and just sluggish!
While a lot of lube do slow down cubes, annoyingly most lubes that slow cubes down is only a short term slowness and eventually start speeding back up again fairly quickly.
With cubes like the Gan 16 or Weilong v11, there’s very few cubers who will receive these and not need to slow down these cubes,
What I have noticed is the previous guhong pro, the non + model is a bit slower than the + model.
This was easier to set up and within minutes I managed to get it to a reasonable speed where it’s not too uncontrollably fast without what feels like an excessive amount of lubricant.
One thing that I don’t think helps this problem is the guhong pro +’s ( 54mm, 55mm, 56mm ) adjustment system, it was near impossible to read nor figure out. Using transparent purple is cool but isn’t very readable. I ended up being unable to figure out how to tighten the cube. I wouldn’t say the cube was overly loose anyway.
The Dayan guhong pro + ( 54mm, 55mm, 56mm ) is a good cube!
It just undercovers an issue that many cube manufacturers are pushing,
The fast airy feeling of cubes isn’t needed. Very few can handle such speed and require to slow down the cube.
When it comes to pushing cubes to be lighter and airy, this comes with the sacrifice of weight reduction. Usually thinning down pieces. This causes cubes to be fragile, a common occurrence with the RS3M V5).
This cubes plastic is very thin and is easy to damage.
We’re pushing out a lot of similar 3x3 cubes way too quickly, other puzzles aren’t getting the same kind of attention.
There was a time when moyu released about 40 unique 3x3’s in a rough 2 year gap. Meanwhile we’re had our first major square-1 release (MGC Square-1 V2 after 5 years!
With some of moyu’s newer releases, they are way too similar that it’s a struggle to recommend them! Super aolong (not yet stocked!) is almost identical to the Super Weilong V2. Both extremely expensive cubes, which are also extremely similar to the Weilong v11. All three of these cubes exist and struggle to bring any form of uniqueness to the cubing scene.
Cube manufacturers are releasing too many 3x3’s and focusing on speed and light weight above all else.
This causes issues with similar releases at high expenses and fragile cubes which can’t withstand rough cubing sessions.
I personally don’t think I’ll be maining the Dayan guhong pro + ( 54mm, 55mm, 56mm ) and will stick with their previous model because of the slower speed.
